چکیده
Rev Esp Cardiol. 2005;58(1):91-2 91 Ventricular noncompaction is a recognized variety of myocardial disease involving systolic and diastolic ventricular dysfunction. We present a 3-D echocardiographic reconstruction in a 52-year-old woman with a 2-year history of palpitations and heart failure that improved with initiation of pharmacologic therapy. The electrocardiogram showed sinus rhythm at 70 bpm with a first-degree atrioventricular block and indeterminate axis, with evidenIM AG E S I N CA R D I O L O G Y

Isolated Left Ventricular Noncompaction Cardiomyopathy diagnosed by Transesophageal Echocardiography
Isolated noncompaction of the ventricular myocardium has often been misdiagnosed as other cardiomyopathies because it is a relatively recently described cardiomyopathy with literature limited to case reports and case series and little awareness among physicians. We are reporting a case of isolated left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathy that was misdiagnosed for over two decades.

Isolated noncompaction of the ventricular myocardium is an uncommon disorder characterized by an excessively prominent trabecular meshwork seen in the early period of embryogenesis. The clinical presentation of noncompaction includes a high prevalence of heart failure, thromboembolic events and arrhythmias. Echocardiography is the procedure of choice for the diagnosis of noncompaction. We repor...

AIM We aimed to present a case with ventricular myocardial noncompaction involving both ventricles. METHODS AND RESULTS Noncompaction of ventricle is a rare and unclassified congenital cardiac malformation is due to an arrest in intrauterine endomyocardial morphogenesis. We presented a ventricular myocardial noncompaction case involving both left and right ventricles. The physical examination...
متن کاملA Rare Cause of Heart Failure Treated by Heart Transplantation: Noncompaction of the Ventricular Myocardium
Noncompaction of the ventricular myocardium is a rare cardiomyopathy due to an arrest of myocardial morphogenesis. The characteristic echocardiographic findings are prominent myocardial trabeculations and deep intertrabecular spaces communicating with the left ventricular cavity. The clinical manifestations include heart failure (HF) signs, ventricular arrhythmias, and cardioembolic events. We ...
متن کاملLeft Ventricular Noncompaction in a Patient of Afro-Caribbean Descent: A Call for Risk Assessment in Immigrants from Tropical Regions
Noncompaction of the left ventricular myocardium (LVNC) is a rare cardiomyopathy believed to be caused by intrauterine arrest of normal embryogenesis of the endocardium and myocardium. Noncompaction is characterized by presence of prominent trabeculae, deep intertrabecular recesses and thickening of the myocardium in two distinct layers: compacted and noncompacted. LVNC may or may not be associ...
متن کاملA Case of Noncompaction of the Ventricular Myocardium Combined with Situs Ambiguous with Polysplenia
A 33-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with chest pain and exertional dyspnea. Two-dimensional echocardiography showed prominent trabeculations and deep intertrabecular recesses, findings consistent with noncompaction of the ventricular myocardium. Thoracoabdominal CT and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) revealed situs ambiguous with polysplenia and noncompaction of the left ven...
